Search visibility starts with a site that can be crawled, rendered and understood consistently. AEO does not replace SEO. The same foundation—clear entities, useful content, crawlable links, structured data and authoritative evidence—supports both traditional and AI-assisted search experiences.
1. Verify crawl and canonical signals
Choose one canonical protocol and host, then redirect all variants to it. Every indexable page should return a successful status, expose a self-referencing canonical and avoid conflicting noindex or robots rules.
Keep only canonical indexable URLs in the sitemap. Do not block a noindex page in robots.txt because the crawler must access the page to see the noindex directive.
2. Build metadata for people first
Use a unique title and description that communicate the page intent before truncation. Headings should describe the content hierarchy, not repeat keywords mechanically.
One clear H1 is enough for the primary topic. Multiple H2 elements are valid when they represent peer sections under the H1.
3. Add structured data that matches visible content
Organization, WebSite, BreadcrumbList, Service and Article markup can help search systems understand entities and relationships when the structured data reflects the page.
Do not create markup for reviews, locations, products or claims that are not actually present and verifiable on the page.
4. Submit discovery signals
Verify the site in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. Submit the XML sitemap to both. Use URL inspection for important new or materially changed pages.
IndexNow can notify Bing and participating engines about added, updated or removed URLs. It does not guarantee indexing, so content quality and crawlability still matter.
5. Strengthen AEO with evidence
Answer important questions directly, then support the answer with examples, implementation detail, diagrams, original data and primary-source references where relevant.
Build a consistent company entity across the About page, organization schema and reputable third-party profiles. Real case studies and external citations are stronger authority signals than additional keyword variants.
6. Measure after launch
Monitor index coverage, crawl errors, Core Web Vitals, search queries, conversions and AI citation reports where available. Prioritize fixes based on actual user and search data instead of repeatedly changing pages without evidence.
Update sitemap dates only when pages materially change. Repeated deployments alone are not a reason to resubmit every URL.
